Harry Chapin
1973, San Francisco, I remember it well.
Waiting at night by the bus stop heading east from the Marino District Ester and I, from one coffee house audition to another with guitar and songs. The Yellow Cab stopped and you said, "Get in, I'll take you." "Sorry man, we have no money." "No problem, I play Guitar too." "We're going to the Coffee Galery on Grant." "Don't worrk, I know where it is." You said you write songs and drive cab. Three years later, In Ketchikan, I hear your songs on the radio, see your photo on the album. A pleasant face, a kind and gentle soul. Songs of taxi driving and other stories of cats and cradles, and the man in the moon. Now you are gone from this earth. Oh yes Harry, I remember you well.
