One Last Day

My eyes open wide. I don’t hear a single sound.
It’s time to get up and see if anyone is around.

The house is quiet and it’s really dark inside.
I’m wide awake so I’ll just look around, I decide
.

No one is up. My wife is fast asleep in her bed.
I seem to be hungry. I want to be fed!

I’ll make up my bed real nice and neat now.
I guess I pull the sheets smooth, though I don’t remember how.

My clothes are quite a puzzle. They snuggly go on me.
Fitting right over my PJs so I can be ready for company.

I want to go for a walk, so 2 coats and a red hat will do fine.
It’s nice and warm outside. I think it must be summertime.

I notice a swing set, all rusty outside sitting all alone.
Were there ever children out there, or have they all grown
?

There are pictures of people all over my room.
Faces I can’t remember.  Even a bride with some groom.

Outside the window is green grass, flowers and trees.
Who planted them? I didn’t cause I think I’d sneeze.

Did I eat breakfast? My stomach seems empty to me.
I’ll eat that apple, some toast, have an egg and tea
.

I peek into my wife’s room, and tap tap tap on her wall.
“Honey I love you. I love you Honey” I quietly call
.

It’s time to visit Max today. I like having coffee in his den.
He seems to have a wife once but I can’t remember when
.

My chair looks comfortable. Before I go I’ll just sit a spell.
I bow my head and quickly go where sweet dreams dwell…
