Bruce the brave, chased away
the overly fat rat that was living behind the dumpster at Bill’s restaurant.
He even scared the ten-pound
tom cat so he moved far away. The cat was stealing things out of the
neighborhood trash cans.
Bruce is a formable three-year-old
bull dog who slobbers when excited and wiggles his tiny curly tail when happy.
He begs by attempting to sit up but can’t quite succeed because He falls backward,
landing in a thud onto the floor. He loves his live-in yellow striped fur ball,
Lucy, the cat that has attitude.
He and Lucy sneak out of the
fenced back yard every morning through a hole in the fence behind the big
Hydrangea with huge blue flowers that bloom every year.
They love running down the path in the woods
behind the house. They always stop and say hi to the squirrels and birds
singing from the tree. Then continue
Along with a quick hi to the
mole that makes little hills across the open spaces along their path.
This lovely morning, there is
a big BIG sound behind them. Something heavy and large is quickly getting
closer and closer to them. Bruce turns his head only to see a black bear
running right toward him and Lucy.
“RUN, as fast as you dare.
I think I see a bear.
He’s big, black, right
behind.
Bears love eating our kind.
I’m going to bark and howl,
You can hiss, scream and yowl,
Lets make lots of loud sounds.
His running pounds the ground.
Bruce barks, growls yelps and
howls,
Lucy scared but still yowls.
Their noises fill the air.
Help is heard, here to there.
Bruce bravely steals a peek
What’s the BIG BLACK DOG seek?
He just wants to say “Hay”,
Let’s stop, greet and play.
He’s a Newfoundland, see?
And as happy as can be.
So Bruce and Lucy have a new
friend
Who just wanted to play, in the end.
