Got to work, bad news made it a mess,
Completely stunned, I got in distress.
My job as planter and gardener was
given to a back woods carpenter.
Where hammering will disrupt the crop.
It won’t grow, and he’ll have to stop.
Is there a
new place
for me? Just think!
My gardening job’s gone in a blink.
I sit down on a log feeling sad.
Farming is the only work I’ve had .
I have done my job the best I could.
and worked every day, just like I should.
I’ll ask Gertie, she’ll know what to do.
She’s my sweet loving wife, tried and true.
“Hey, Freddie, my dear, listen to me.
Don’t you realize your finally free?
Haven’t you dreamed of doing other
things?
We both could see what traveling brings.”

Let’s sit on the bench and rest awhile.
Daydream about what we think’s worthwhile.
Make a list of what you’d love to do.
The list may inspire a breakthrough.
There are places to see, things to do?
We’ll be together, just me and you.
They thought and thought and thought,
all day long.
No thought was ever considered wrong.
All our kids have gone out on their own.
But know we’ll never be all alone.
Shall we make wind chimes or whittle
flutes?
Maybe make shoes or big western boots?
We could ride busses going anywhere.
And see new places without a care.
Let’s design a game, a prototype.
maybe work in the fields, pick what’s ripe.
We would love to watch boats at the dock.
Or learn guitar, sing and play loud rock.
Let’s fish out on the lake, or train
cats.
Oh, no. Teaching cats would drive me bats.
We can try and do new things each day.
Let’s invite our kids, what do you say? .
Tomorrow has already begun, .
We’ll stay busy ‘til the sun goes down.
So every day begins something new.
I’m lucky to spend my time with you.

.
