My grandmother, Bertha K, told us the
story
of the pieces of string. New Englanders have always been known for
their frugal
life style and Grandma enjoyed telling us about the elderly New England
lady
who saved everything she ever touched.
When the lady finally passed away,
her
relatives were sorting through the great volumes of items she had saved
as she
thought they might one day be useful for something. Then they came to a
box
labeled “pieces of string too short to save”.
They carefully opened the box and
sure
enough, it was full of pieces of string too short to save.
Memories of Grandma K.
