My first experience with weaving baskets was in the mid-1980s when I bought a kit to make an egg basket.  That project went better than it would have had I known that this is a rather difficult basket for a beginner.  Several years later, I took a class at a local museum, and that was when I discovered color in basketry.  I have synesthesia -- I "feel" colors -- so the ability to dye reed and create baskets with color opened a new world to me.  From that point, I was self-taught.  I bought many books and, of course, used my public library.
